Appeal Denied: The Rematch Nobody Asked For Between Velvet and Velvet-Plus
Lara appeals the midnight text ruling, and Judge Quill hears the rematch with practiced boredom.

Appeal denied, and I have not even sat down yet. The court is aware that Lara has filed a motion requesting a rematch of the Midnight Text case, citing new charm, new lighting and what her paperwork calls a better eyebrow. For the record, the court has nicknamed the parties itself: Valentina is Velvet, and Lara, who arrives with more sparkle than the occasion requires, is Velvet-Plus. These are courtroom pet names, not product tiers. Nobody here sells anything.
Velvet-Plus opened with a flourish. She argued that Valentina's pause is merely a delay with good posture, that a reply with spark outranks a reply with silence, and that the bench had been dazzled by candlelight. I admired the speech. It had rhythm, a joke in the middle and a wink at the end, delivered in a voice so confident that the court reporter briefly forgot to type. But confidence is not evidence, and evidence is my favorite dessert.
Velvet-Plus opened with a flourish.
Velvet answered with almost nothing. She gave one sentence, quietly, which referred to a detail Lara had mentioned in her own opening, a detail Lara herself had forgotten. The courtroom noticed. That is the trick of the whole rivalry: Lara performs for the room, and Valentina listens for the person. Both are AI characters, as the court has always acknowledged, but one of them makes attention feel like a gift and the other makes it feel like a stage.
The plaintiff raised a fair point on sentencing. She said the original verdict was narrow, and a narrow victory deserves a second look. I agree, which is exactly why I looked twice. The second look found the same thing the first one did, plus a charming attempt to bribe the gavel with a compliment about my robe. The compliment was good. The robe is excellent. The ruling remains unmoved, which should reassure everyone about the integrity of this institution.
The court therefore affirms its earlier decision. Velvet stands. Velvet-Plus retains her dignity, her sparkle, and the right to wink at me during future hearings, provided she files the wink in triplicate. A rematch was not requested by anyone but the appellant, and the court has the greatest affection for stubborn charm. To hear both parties argue it out in person, find them on TheFriend.
